I can’t believe it’s time once again to share my monthly picks. It feels like I was just doing this. Oh right, that’s probably because I got my August picks up kind of late. But according to the calendar I keep on my desk it’s September now, and it’s time for a new collection of picks. So whether you’re hunting for the perfect birthday gift for September birthdays, or just want to check out some of the cool products out there featuring artwork by yours truly, keep reading!

1. A New Design for an Old Fart

One of my newest designs, was created specifically for old coots (and I can say that because I definitely qualify as one!) You can find my illustrations of a coot (What’s a coot? It’s a type of bird, a waterfowl, to be exact.) on a variety of products but my favorites may be these Old Coot Birthday Party Invitations. 2. An Adopt a Little Doofus T-Shirt

I’m a bit late with this one, but I’ve been reliably informed by the internet that September 1st is Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, and I guess I’ve got a bit of ginger cat in me, as I missed this momentous occasion. Still if you love cats, and in particular ginger ones, which aren’t known for being the brightest of felines, then you might appreciate my Adopt a Little Doofus T-Shirt. It features my hand drawn illustration of an orange cat who looks like his brains just might be made of marmalade as he sits sprawled out in an awkward fashion with a pretty dopey look on his adorable face. 3. A Personalized Macaw Writing Paper Pad

Speaking of adopting animals, my niece recently adopted a rescued macaw. So, in honor of her new roommate, I had to include macaw stationery. This writing paper pad or tablet is lined. There’s a spot at the top where you can personalize the paper with your name or other custom text, and of course there’s my illustration of a blue and yellow macaw. This striking tropical bird, definitely bears a resemblance to my niece’s housemate. 4. This Salty Sticker

Well, chatty tropical birds naturally make me think of pirates, and that very important holiday National Talk Like a Pirate Day falls in September. Technically this sticker does not depict a pirate, but it is pretty salty. By which I mean, it literally says “SALTY” on it and has my illustration of an old timey sea captain in his yellow rain hat and rain slicker. Question: did your grandmother have a collection of these carved wooden sea captains or was that just mine? Either way this nautical sticker which is available in my Redbubble store is the perfect way to let folks know you can be a little salty yourself, not unlike a crusty old sea captain.

5. A Tattooed Wedding Invitation

It’s come to my attention that September 16th is National Tattoo Story Day, not actually National Tattoo Day, which I can only assume is celebrated some other month, but a day specifically devoted to telling folks the story behind your tattoos. So, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if you’re the sort of person so into tattoos that you count down the days to National Tattoo Story Day then you will probably be interested in my Tattooed Hearts Wedding Invitations, especially if you’re lucky enough to have found your tattoo soul mate. A celebration that’s more my speed is National Read a Book Day. It falls on September 6th, and you better believe I’ll be celebrating by curling up with a good book. My Off to Cause a Kerfuffle sweatshirt features my illustration of a cute, but mischevous marmot, clutching some poor camper’s sneaker. Look marmots will be marmots, and kerfuffles are going to happen. So, if you’re looking for a trendy, but timeless design, this one’s for  you. These days most of the news is depressing and demoralizing so I’m all for celebrating the news stories that are a bit more chill.

9. My Gourd Have Mercy Graphic Tee

September is the start of fall, or autumn if you prefer, so I had to include my Gourd Have Mercy graphic t-shirt because it has big fall energy. It’s available in my TeePublic store, and it features my illustration of a green gourd below this funny play on words slogan. Sure, “Oh My Gourd” is a popular saying, but gourd and God don’t rhyme, but Lord and gourd do. So, celebrate all things fall like pumpkin spice lattes, the start of sweater weather, changing leaves, fresh apple cider, raking leaves and more with the help of this t-shirt which is a fun fall find, but cool enough to wear year-round. So, yeah, gourd have mercy!

10. A Personalized Paddleboard Beach Towel

Finally September 22nd is that most illustrious of holidays, Flaunt Your Beach Towel Day. I can only assume this was founded by a beach towel manufacturer, and no, I don’t understand why September of all months would be flaunt your beach towel day, but you can’t argue with the calendar. So, in that spirit here’s my personalized paddleboard beach towel. Spell check is of the opinion that paddle board should be written as two words. So, maybe I’ll just call it a SUP instead.
